MVEA Committees 

MVEA purely is member driven.  Participation on a committee helps to put forth MVEA's vision and mission. Being part of an MVEA committee utilizes your professional voice and expertise that helps shape policy and impacts the overall working conditions of members. MVEA committees help build our union power and our overall collective voice.  Only MVEA members can apply to sit on committee.  If you are interested please complete  the interest form below.

​1.) Communications: MVEA’s award winning publication the Advocate is always looking for writers. If you have a passion for writing, have publishing skills or would just like to learn how to put a newsletter together, this is the place for you! This committee oversees our new Facebook page and will be working to update a new website this year.


2.) Instruction and Professional Development: Provides support and training for the professional development needs of teachers. This committee will assist sites toward becoming positive working environments through training and meetings.
 

3.) Membership: The committee plans the new teacher orientation, member get-togethers, and round-tables on issues that are of concern to all MVEA members.

 
4.) Social: Plan fun events for members and help with the Winter Celebration.


 
​5.) MVEA Scholarship: Advertises, sends out applications, reviews submitted applications and decides on the winners for the MVEA student scholarships offered at each high school.

 
6.) Elections:  Plans, organizes, oversees, runs, puts materials together, counts ballots and announces the results of all MVEA elections.


 
7.) Grievance: Monitors and assists with site and District contractual issues. Tracks and monitors all grievances. Assists members with the Problem Solving Process.

 
8.) MVEA Fall Leadership Conference:
Plans, organizes and designs trainings for our yearly leadership conference. Selects the theme, site, menus, etc.


 
9.) MVEA Budget Committee:  Surveys members on the needs of the Association. Proposes our budget to the Executive Board. Oversees and monitors the implementation of the MVEA budget and reports to the Executive Board and Representative Council.

 
10.) Human Rights: This committee works to raise the awareness of members to human and civil rights issues. Focuses on providing members the opportunity to attend seminars and trainings on civil rights issues.

 

11.) Political Action: Works to protect the interests of public education through political involvement. Specifically the PAC identifies potential School Board candidates who must believe in Public Education and the issues surrounding it. PAC also plans strategies to help elect MVEA endorsed School Board candidates. 

 
12.) Special Education Standing Committee:
This committee researches and discusses issues that effect special education members. This committee makes recommendations to MVEA and to the District regarding special educators, and their students’ needs.


 
13.) Bargaining Team: Works with members to assist in supporting the bargaining process by organizing and building MVEA capacity at sites and throughout the District.

 
14.) Subject Advisory Council:
These committees work to express the professional opinions and needs of members at their sites to MVEA and the District and make recommendations regarding curriculum, textbooks and courses based on the feedback the committee members receive from MVEA members at their sites.

 

15.) District Technology Committee: Meets with colleagues from around the District to discuss needs and trends in technology, shares concerns to and from members at the sites and makes recommendations to the District.

 
16.) Attendance Boundary Committee: Meets and reviews data regarding attendance boundaries in the District. Makes recommendation for maintaining the attendance boundaries or for any changes.
 

17.) District Safety Committee: Meets to review and adopt the District plans for student and employee safety. Monitors these plans throughout their implementation.
